This month, David Yurman—a welder and sculptor turned jewelry designer renowned for his iconic cable-twist bracelets—debuts his eponymous 32-year-old brand’s renovated Beverly Hills flagship. To fill the larger Gabellini Sheppard Associates–designed space, the Hollywood-beloved Yurman (Brad Pitt, Charlize Theron and Justin Bieber have been seen sporting his line) has concepted items exclusive to the West Coast boutique.
Standouts include an 18-karat hand-hammered link necklace with cognac-diamond pavé; a sterling-silver and 18-karat with black-diamond pavé Chiclet bracelet; and designs incorporating Mojave Desert bronzite. “The pieces are California inspired,” he says. “We didn’t take pictures and put them on a mood board. You get inspired by memory, by things ingrained in your soul.”
In the ’60s, Yurman hitchhiked from New York to California, living for a time in Venice before heading back east. His wife, muse and business partner, Sybil, also lived out here, although the two actually met later in New York. These days, Yurman loves to ride his horse in the canyons near Malibu.
“California’s about freedom,” he says. “There’s an openness. It’s a relaxed lifestyle, and all of the jewelry reflects that. I feel like California is my creative home.” Prices upon request. 371 N. Rodeo Dr., 310-888-8618. —Ingrid Schmidt
