Hollywood Backlot Dinner for Schmucks

David Strick’s behind-the-scenes look at hot TV and movie productions continues this month with director Jay Roach’s latest.

Young exec Paul Rudd wants a place at the table—in this case, his boss’ monthly bring-an-idiot-to-dinner soiree. Enter Steve Carell as Barry, an IRS employee who re-creates iconic paintings with tableaux vivants of dead mice. All the ingredients of a great farce—guilt, misunderstandings, bad backs, exasperated girlfriends and men behaving badly—are served throughout as an amuse-bouche. Jay Roach (Meet the Parents, Meet the Fockers) directs the flick, due out July 23.
