"From Here to Eternity" has gotta be no. 1. "Gone with the Wind" no. 2. "Lady and the Tramp" no. 3.

What?? Where is the iconic kiss from Roman Holiday? We could have used a good deal more color in these choices as well.
Posted by: Rosemary | 02/07/2010 at 04:08 AM
How in the world could you leave out Montgomery Cliff-Elizabeth Taylor in A Place in the Sun. The kiss was great enough to make the cover of Life magazine, and combined with the splendid score that accompanied it, it makes one of the great moments in screen history.

Glad to see 'Pandora's Box' at #3 :), but where are Cary and Eva Marie on the train in 'North By Northwest'?

I was pleased that you included a scene from "Pandora's Box" in your list of 50 Classic Movie Kisses. Gosh, who wouldn't want to kiss Louise Brooks?
However, I would have chosen a different scene from the film. I think the backstage scene in "Pandora's Box" where Lulu and Dr. Schon are caught embracing is especially torrid. Now that's a kiss!

How could you leave off Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca?????
Posted by: mynamehere | 02/07/2010 at 01:17 PM
Oh, yes, "A Place in the Sun!" "Come to mama . . ." But, "We had Paris . . .Here's looking at you, kid . . ."
Posted by: ucrsue | 02/07/2010 at 01:40 PM
Yul Brynner and Anne Baxter in The Ten Commandments - more than just a Bible epic.
Posted by: Grace Hampton | 02/07/2010 at 01:56 PM
One of the great screen chemistries in motion picture history was in "Last of the Mohicans," the first kiss in the firelight between Daniel Day-Lewis (Hawkeye) and Madeleine Stowe (Cora Munro). Just as strong a piece of chemistry -- when he did NOT kiss her, but simply looked at her, as though memorizing her face ... to the words, "I'm looking at you, Miss."
Posted by: M Merritt | 02/07/2010 at 04:21 PM
Greg Peck and Ava Gardner in On the Beach, the world is dying from a nuclear attack, they steal a night in the mountains, the kiss had to last at least 20 seconds. It was a fantastic moment.
Posted by: Craig Cohen | 02/08/2010 at 08:52 AM
I have to go with 'A Man and A Woman' as #1, 'To Have and Have Not' as #2, and 'Ghost' as #3.
Posted by: Bill | 02/08/2010 at 10:20 AM
I prefer the "To Have and Have Not" kiss featuring Humphrey Bogart to the "Casablanca" kiss. Casablanca may be more iconic, however I think the To Have and Have Not kiss a better kiss.
Posted by: Matt | 02/08/2010 at 02:06 PM
I looked for both of these and found neither; either I'm out of touch or you have no clue.

the notebook, amazing kiss!
Posted by: gal | 02/09/2010 at 07:06 AM
Trapeze. Tony Curtis is hanging upside down and pulls Gina Lollabrigida up where she belongs...to lock lips suspended from the trapeze. Yeah!
Posted by: jj harris | 02/09/2010 at 08:00 AM
What about Susan Sarrandon and Catherine Denueve in "The Hunger." Phew!
Posted by: Tracy | 02/09/2010 at 11:28 AM
Y tu mama tambien???
The Crime of Father Amaro
Posted by: El Critico | 02/09/2010 at 01:43 PM
A Place in the Sun is one of the greats, but please folks, let's not forget the George and Mary's kiss in It's a Wonderful Life. All of the elements are there. Please, show some respect for true passion.
Posted by: T Rodriguez | 02/09/2010 at 05:30 PM
I vote for Notorious because it's one of my favorite movies and because Hitchcock shot that kiss that way to get around the censors in 1946.
Posted by: Ken | 02/09/2010 at 08:19 PM
My top 5:
Gone with the wind
From Here to Eternity
Brokeback Mountain
Now Voyager
The Lady and the Tramp
Posted by: Luciano C. | 02/10/2010 at 05:45 AM
#13 Notorious...real, sexy, most beautiful screen couple ever...
Posted by: Beau | 02/10/2010 at 08:34 AM
place in the sun kiss is the best... good grief and it isn't on here!
Posted by: Brian Tencza | 02/10/2010 at 10:50 AM
Some of these kisses, I just noticed, are not on the website but were in the magazine. I think the magazine had more than 50 and the website only has 50. For example Vertigo and The Hunger were in the magazine. I bet the Hunger was taken out because of all the sexiness
Posted by: Matt | 02/10/2010 at 12:15 PM
There are many good selections here but I find it difficult to believe nobody thought of "The Third Man".
Posted by: Timothy K. Archie | 02/10/2010 at 03:31 PM
Tony and Maria in "West Side Story." The post-rumble kiss in her bedroom, with the couple's silhouette enveloped by the moonlight.
Posted by: GeneTierney | 02/10/2010 at 05:22 PM
Castaway
Posted by: Eric | 02/10/2010 at 08:14 PM
Does anybody know how i can get a poster of this would love to have this in my office.
Posted by: David | 02/11/2010 at 04:45 PM
My favorite kiss, is when Deborah Kerr says those beautiful words about remembering this moment, as she kisses John Kerr, in "Tea and Sympathy".
Also love the kiss, "on a high and windy hill", in "Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing".
Posted by: Alf | 02/12/2010 at 12:34 AM
Mongomery Cliff had a style the way he looked at whom ever he would kiss. Fisrt he would look the woman all over her face, with this slight smile on his face, then pull her into him and kiss her very gently. Even though he was gay, he knew how. Loved the way he kissed Ann Baxter in I Confess.
Posted by: mary ross | 02/12/2010 at 04:49 AM
No. 11; aggressive woman
No. 27; most innovative
No. 42; sweetest
Posted by: gary | 02/12/2010 at 08:27 AM
The ending kiss from "The Princess Bride" should be in the top 5 and it's not even listed in the top 50.
Posted by: C Bowden | 02/12/2010 at 04:24 PM
Meu Deus cada beijooo :DDDDD

Posted by: monica | 02/12/2010 at 11:11 PM
Where is "Don't Look Now"? Donald Sutherland/ Julie Christie. Directed by Nicolas Roeg. Sooo hot!
Posted by: roxierose | 02/12/2010 at 11:46 PM
I agree with a previos post. Liz Taylor-Monty Cliff in "A Place in the Sun" - hands down.
Posted by: V. Carr | 02/13/2010 at 10:54 AM
The most romantic, wholly believable, heartbreaking kiss of the past decade: Viggo Mortensen and Naomi Watts in Eastern Promises. Hooooo Boy! I still get a little breathless when I think about it.
Posted by: JBM | 02/13/2010 at 07:33 PM
Hey, how could you miss out William Hurt and the late Raul Julia in "Kiss of the Spider Woman" or Al Pacino and the late John Cazale in "Godfather 2"?
Posted by: Tyko | 02/13/2010 at 10:17 PM
TWILIGHT DOES not deserve that title.
psh. give it to something good
Posted by: QuestionableQuestioner | 02/14/2010 at 08:31 AM
What about Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia? Talk about controversy!
Posted by: Nicole | 02/14/2010 at 09:25 AM
Gone with the Wind is by far the greatest screen kiss of all time. However, I must admit the kiss from Godfather II, when Michael Corelone kiss Fredo has haunted me for over 35 years.
Posted by: Frank Louis Calabrese | 02/14/2010 at 02:04 PM
What about the kiss between Renee Zelweger & Vincent D'onofrio in "The Whole Wide World" Whoa! Now that's a kiss...
Posted by: LK | 02/14/2010 at 02:27 PM
Notorious, but they picked the wrong kiss. The kiss at the end where she's been drugged and he goes upstairs to save her and she realizes he loves her - so hot.
Posted by: Catherine | 02/15/2010 at 11:29 AM
Ben & Annabelle towards the end of the Filipino American coming-of-ager, "the Debut" (2000). Her monologue on how flat Filipino noses make for ideal kissing conditions was validating.
Posted by: elizp | 02/15/2010 at 02:16 PM
I definitely think that Diane Lane and Vigo Mortenson should be included in "Walk on the Moon!"
Posted by: Daniel | 02/16/2010 at 06:27 AM
A kiss couldn't be more romantic than the farewell one George Custer (Errol Flynn) gave his wife (Olivia De Haviland) before he departed for his fatal "last stand."
Posted by: Claudine Willis | 02/16/2010 at 09:02 AM
One that is not on the list that I consider one of the best kisses of all time is from Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window. Grace Kelly is sitting on Jimmy Stewart's lap.
Posted by: Kerry | 02/18/2010 at 11:22 AM
Vincent D'onfrio and Renee Zelweiger in The Whole Wide World.....definitely the best.
Posted by: Floraine | 02/19/2010 at 01:39 PM
NO WAY! "The Notebook" should so be #1! Consider younger movies!!! Not all good kissing happened prior to 1950!
Posted by: Elizabeth | 02/19/2010 at 02:07 PM
How about Willam Holden and Kim Novack in " Picnic"
Posted by: Betty | 02/19/2010 at 02:41 PM
Gregory Peck and Jennifer Jones in " Duel in the Sun"
Posted by: Betty | 02/19/2010 at 02:44 PM
What about "The postman always rings Twice" with Jacknickelson and Jessica Lange"
Posted by: Betty | 02/19/2010 at 02:54 PM
Hello.........Hasn't anyone ever seen Natural Born Killers?? Mickey and Mallory's kiss at the end was one for the ages!
Posted by: Kellie | 02/19/2010 at 03:24 PM
The best kiss I've ever seen was between Meg Ryan and Russell Crowe in Proof of Life. The movie may not have been well received, but the kiss was.
Posted by: Cathy | 02/19/2010 at 03:36 PM
Best on screen kiss is in Rear Window. Hitchcock slows down the film as Grace Kelly comes in to kiss a sleeping Jimmy Stewart. Sexy as all get out and no one takes off any clothes...
Posted by: Nicole | 02/19/2010 at 03:50 PM
Sorry, have to go with Edward & Bella in Twilight. The tension and utter sexy-ness of that kiss made my heart skip a few beats. Ummm, the pause was just scrumptious! Any yes, I am over 17, almost 40 and the best kiss I have had the pleasure to witness on screen.
Posted by: Amiee Lofruscio | 02/19/2010 at 04:26 PM
Top Gun should be higher
Posted by: Andy | 02/19/2010 at 04:42 PM
Why the hell isn't the famous kiss from "The Quiet Man" not in the top 50?! Any real movie buff knows that kiss was iconic!!!
Posted by: Tosha | 02/19/2010 at 05:34 PM
i hope you all realize this is organized by the year the movies came out
Posted by: foulcity | 02/19/2010 at 05:42 PM
Whoa. Hold the mayo!!! Who wrote this list?! What about The Princess Bride?!
"Since the invention of the kiss, there have only been five kisses that were rated the most passionate, the most pure. This one left them all behind."
Posted by: rxxxxxe | 02/19/2010 at 06:03 PM
They forgot "the kiss that kills" from SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL 1987
Posted by: Gary Jagels | 03/10/2010 at 10:34 AM
The kiss in #2 looks more like an attempted rape to me - why was *that one* included...? Oh - another case of the LA Times questionable judgment....
Posted by: sue | 03/10/2010 at 10:47 AM
Brokeback was one of the most powerful--though it is a recent movie.
Posted by: JimBob | 03/10/2010 at 03:01 PM
How about Oily to Bed, Oily to Bed (1939), when Curly tries to kiss his girl and winds up kissing Moe.
Posted by: Rowby Goren | 03/10/2010 at 08:31 PM
How about the first kuss between Katie and Hubbel in the way we were?
Posted by: nadina | 03/11/2010 at 06:34 AM
Debra Winger and Theresa Russell in "Black Widow." That kiss was unforgettable
Posted by: asher hawke | 03/11/2010 at 08:53 AM
Glad to see "The Sound of Music" made the list but you have the wrong couple - where's Maria and the Captain in the gazebo???? Geez!!!
Posted by: Margie | 03/11/2010 at 08:53 AM
"They Died With Their Boots On"----Errol Flynn and Olivia De Haviland---their farewell kiss just before he rides off into Eternity.
Posted by: claudine willis | 03/11/2010 at 09:15 AM
What happened to #17???
Posted by: Linda Freed | 03/23/2010 at 02:49 PM
Any Best Kiss list should include the library kiss in Atonement (2007) between James McAvoy and Keira Knightly as Robbie and Cecilia. (Though my favorite best-kiss-ever is McAvoy kissing Christina Ricci in Penelope...)
Posted by: mimi minou | 06/29/2010 at 09:48 AM
What? No Wuthering Heights?
Lots of women kissing women, why no men kissing men? The most important: The Godfather II
Posted by: Don | 06/29/2010 at 10:24 AM
One of my all-time favorite movie kisses didn't make your top 50 - Tom Ewell and Marilyn Monroe while he's trying to re-create his dream sequence on the piano bench in "The Seven-Year Itch" is one of the funniest and best movie kisses ever!
Posted by: Stacey | 06/29/2010 at 10:49 AM
Brokeback Mountain, when Jack and Ennis reunite -- and ignite -- and four years apart. It is incredibly moving, and devastating.
Posted by: stephen94040 | 06/29/2010 at 11:53 AM
I accidentally voted on Thomas Crown Affair, trying to find a way to vote on something other than your top 5 -- my vote would have been cast for Cary and Ingrid in Notorious. THAT is romance. THAT is a kiss.
Also, can't believe that you included Liesl and Rolf from The Sound of Music -- if you were going to include a Sound of Music kiss, Georg and Maria in that same gazebo should have been the choice.
Posted by: Beth | 07/16/2010 at 07:53 AM
I think if they can include a "Twilight" kiss than the kiss in "Less Than Zero" should be included.
Posted by: Chad McCool | 07/16/2010 at 01:41 PM
You missed Katherine Hepburn and Burt Lancaster in 'The Rainmaker'.
Posted by: Ohsnap! | 09/29/2010 at 05:18 PM
Great selection, but BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN by far. So much emotion behind that, among so many other reasons!
Posted by: Ramona Frost | 12/20/2010 at 08:50 PM
It's A Wonderful Life after Stewart comes back home, Some LIke It Hot between Jack Lemmon and Joe E. Brown, Atonement, Princess Bride, Casablanca
Posted by: Katie | 02/09/2011 at 12:54 PM
How about the early 80's film "E.T."
Dont laugh, but it moved me to tears as a young girl growing up without being allowed to watch them types of films with emotions and kissing being sheltered as a J.Witness (religion)
Basically near the end of the film when E.T. suddenly had to be taken away in the Big Ship. That sad parting kiss, brings tears (almost) to my eyes thinking about it now.

Posted by: zara james | 04/12/2011 at 02:13 PM
It's always the kiss that should never had happened, like "From Here To Eternity" that makes it the best on screen!
Posted by: Kevin R. | 04/23/2011 at 09:12 PM
Many faves on this list especially Ingrid Bergman & Cary Grant in NOTORIOUS.
Ooh-la-la:D
